2018 Officer Training Seminar
March 16 thru March 18 - Orlando World Center Marriott

This weekend we will have the following in attendance:

  • Seminar starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday & concludes at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday

  • Marriott Check-in is 4:00 p.m. & check-out is 11:00 a.m.

  • Also attending will be the endorsed candidates for District VP, DDGER, and District Auditor

  • Dress is business casual for the entire seminar (bring sweater/jacket rooms are sometimes cold)

  • On-site Seminar Check-in/Registration Friday 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Florida Ballroom Foyer – Level 2 – North Tower

  • You are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop or other suitable personal electronic device to access the internet. Most of the presentations will be available from the FSEA website during the presentations so using your personal device to follow along is recommended. 

  • Bar prices at the Marriott are NOT cheap! Please be advised and consider bringing your own personal supplies for your room.

  • Each of you, if you provided me with a working e-mail address, should have received a reservation confirmation from the hotel. If you did not and believe you should have, contact me by e-mail please and let me know. I can then confirm your reservation and e-mail you back your confirmation. ALL changes to your hotel reservations MUST be made by me. If sharing a room with another attendee only the person who reserved the room received a confirmation e-mail.

  • Any special accommodations or requests made for your room will need to be confirmed at hotel check-in.

  • Should you for any reason need to cancel your attendance at the seminar please e-mail me before 3:00 p.m. today, Wednesday 3/14/18. I will not be able to answer phone calls the rest of this week so PLEASE e-mail me. The deadline to cancel and receive a refund is Wednesday, March 14th, by 3:00 p.m. I am sorry, but I will be unable to refund rooms or meals after this time. Also, your thanks for this e-mail is your attendance! PLEASE do not reply with thank you. My e-mail inbox is already overflowing!

  • The Marriott is located at 8701 World Center Drive, Orlando, 32821. It is just off I-4 and is very easy to find. The phone number in case you get lost is (407) 239-4200.

  • Be advised that hotel check-in is not until 4:00 p.m. Please be patient if arriving early and your room isn’t ready. We have been informed that the Marriott is sold-out Thursday night, so check-in will be difficult prior to 4:00 p.m.

  • Upon arrival at the Marriott, drive to the front entrance of the hotel. There you will drop your luggage with the valet (optional of course but well worth the few bucks in tips especially if your room is not ready) and get a luggage claim ticket. You will then want to self-park in the guest self-parking garage and then walk or take the shuttle back to the hotel lobby. Your room key will get you in and out of the garage at no charge, use the ticket you received upon entry only when exiting on check-out day. Once you are back in the hotel lobby you may check-in to your room and when in your room you can call the bell desk and give them your luggage claim ticket number to have your luggage delivered to your room.

  • Should you be driving in for the day, follow the signs directly to the self-parking garage and then walk or take the shuttle to the hotel lobby. At the seminar registration table, you will want to see Dana to obtain your 50% off self-park vouchers. You will use the voucher when you pay to exit the garage to get 50% off parking. The discounted parking rate is $11.72 per exit. The automated attendant at the exit only takes credit cards. To pay with cash you will need to pay at a pay station located on the 1st or 3rd floor of the parking garage.

  • The Marriott has an uncovered flat parking lot that is located near our seminar meeting rooms. It is named the North Tower lot. To access it you will follow the signs to the self-parking garage. Drive past the garage and continue straight down the road to the back of the property. The North Tower lot is located on the left.

  • Seminar registration will open at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in the North Tower meeting rooms foyer on the 2nd floor. See attached resort and meeting room maps for more information or just follow the signs. Our seminar sessions are all being held in the North Tower meeting space.

  • There will be an attendee packet a name badge and goodie bag for each of you at the seminar registration table. This packet will contain the meeting agendas and your meal tickets, etc.  

  • If you would like a new picture for our state website, pictures will be taken at registration all day Friday. The gentleman taking the pictures will be Emery Shepard, husband of our CFO/Accounting Director Barbara Shepard. Please, if we do not have a current picture of you have one taken. Pictures will only be taken on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • The seminar will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. From 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. we will be helping anyone who needs help getting connected to the Marriot’s Convention Center Wi-Fi and accessing our FSEA website. We will have an area in the room for those who also need access to electricity. Information on accessing the meeting Wi-Fi (this is different than the hotel’s free Wi-Fi) will be provided to you in your attendee packet.

  • We have made every effort to accommodate you with complimentary beverages during our breaks. We are charged upon consumption and the prices are VERY high so please use discretion while enjoying the breaks. Breaks will not include snacks as the cost is too high. This is the reason for the goodie bag given to you at registration.

  • Lunch will be on your own on Saturday. In your attendee packet you will each receive a $25 voucher supplied by the Marriott which may be used at Longitudes & Latitudes (formerly Solaris), The Central Pantry (their downstairs food court), or the Falls Pool Bar & Restaurant. The voucher is good Saturday ONLY. At Latitudes & Longitudes your voucher will cover a visit to their AYCE lunch buffet and it will include a non-alcoholic beverage & the tip. This is the only outlet offering an inclusive (one voucher covers everything) lunch option. At the other two outlets your voucher will simply be applied to your purchase up to $25.

  • Our session Sunday morning will conclude in time for you to return to your room to check-out by 11:00 a.m.


Parking at the Orlando World Center Marriott

The World Center is a very large resort and parking is at a premium! Our group rate includes complimentary self-parking.

To use Overnight Self- Parking:

When arriving on property, follow signs for self-parking. You can take the first available right and follow that straight to the self-parking garage. You may also follow the road around the back side of the resort to the North Tower open (no cover) parking lot. This is also the closest available self-parking to our meeting rooms. You will push the button and take a ticket to enter the garage/parking lot. Throughout your stay, you will use your ROOM KEY to enter and exit. At the end of your stay, you will deposit your original ticket to exit.

If you wish to use the bell services for your luggage drop-off, you will want to follow the signs to the hotel entrance and pull into the lanes at the far right of the covering. You can then check your bags with the valet/bellman, and then drive your car to self-parking. You may then check-in to your room and once in your room call the bell desk to request your luggage be delivered.

Valet Parking:

Overnight valet service is $35. When arriving on property you will head directly to the hotel lobby. Once there, please follow signs into the designated valet parking lanes.

Day Self-Parking:

Daily Self-parking is available for $22 per day for those just attending the meetings and not staying at the Marriott. 50% off vouchers will be available at the Florida State Elks registration desk. You will have to get a voucher EACH DAY you attend to receive 50% off your parking.

Getting from the Parking Garage to the Hotel

Once parked in the garage you can follow the signs to the walkway and walk back to the hotel entrance (about 10 minutes) or you can follow the signs to the shuttle which runs continuously between the parking garage and the front entrance. The shuttles are limited, so please be aware that there may be a wait time associated with the shuttles.

Louisiana State Legislature Increases New Orleans Hotel Occupancy Tax

The Legislature of the State of Louisiana has acted to increase the New Orleans Hotel Occupancy Tax from 13% to 14.75% effective April 1, 2014. This will affect our convention room rates and they will go from $128.56 to $130.52 per night.

Convention Attendees With ADA Transportation Needs Urged To Contact Grand Lodge

In order for the Grand Lodge to support the transportation needs of attendees with disabilities you are urged to contact the Grand Lodge if you require special assistance. Special coaches capable of kneeling to accommodate wheel chairs will be placed along the routes for those in need.
