
On Jan. 8, members Kevin Biederman, Hollywood Commissioner; Gina Albright, Exalted Ruler; and Jim Blanchard, PDD (pictured) attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiling the city of Hollywood’s new service club sign, located in the heart of the city at Hollywood Boulevard and Interstate 95. The new sign marks the beginning of the city's 100th birthday celebration. This milestone was made possible by the organizations depicted on the sign — Hollywood West Elks Lodge, Hollywood Lions Club, Rotary Club, American Legion Post, Kiwanis Club, Women’s Club and the Jaycees. The Lodge paid $150 toward the sign.

Pompano Beach Elks Lodge #1898, in collaboration with the City of Lighthouse Point Recreation Department, hosted its Hoop Shoot Nov. 3 at Dan Witt Park, Organized by Hoop Shoot Chair, Brian Bell. The event had more than 20 participants, ages 8-13. Five athletes advanced to district Hoop Shoot Dec. 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton.

On Nov. 17, Hollywood West Lodge partnered with the Community Church of Davie to feed members of the community at Thanksgiving. As many as 100 families in need attended a dinner celebration hosted by Pastor Scott Didriksen and members of his staff and congregation. At the conclusion of the dinner, Pastor Didriksen introduced Gina Albright, Exalted Ruler, and the lodge volunteers who assisted in distributing food bags and 100 $20 gift cards, purchased with the Elks National Foundation Spotlight Grant. Each family received a food bag filled with popular Thanksgiving food items and a $20 Publix grocery gift card presented by a lodge member.

Hollywood West Lodge held its Hoop Shoot Nov. 12 at the Marti Huizenga Boys and Girls Club of Broward County. The competitors received trophies and ribbons for first through fifth place in their respective age groups.

Between April 8 and April 12, Pompano Beach Elks Lodge #1898 presented Elks JROTC awards to Cadet First Sergeant Philip Blaise of Western High Schools Wildcat Battalion, Cadet Commander Emmanuel Cole of Fort Lauderdale High Schools Flying L Battalion, and Cadet First Sergeant Shannon Brown of Coral Glades High Schools Jaguar Battalion. Broward County Public Schools operates the largest JROTC program in the nation, with more than 6,000 cadets in 32 JROTC battalions. More awards were presented throughout the following four weeks to the remaining participating schools.
