On Nov. 10, DeLand Lodge sponsored a hoop shoot at DeLand Middle School. Children from schools all over Volusia County participated in this annual event. The first-place winners from the three age groups for both boys and girls moved on to the district Hoop Shoot held Jan. 5 at DeLand Middle School.

DeLand Elks Lodge #1463 has donated the use of their lodge for the training and adoption process for New Horizons Service Dogs. New Horizons provides service dogs to disabled adults, children and veterans at no cost to the recipients. The dogs have had approximately two years of training before being paired, and each recipient must complete the two-week training and process.

Port Orange Lodge volunteers and local high school students participate in Port Orange Family Days by handing out 1,000 packets containing drug awareness information and coloring books to children and their families.

Edgewater-New Smyrna Beach Lodge’s Exalted Ruler, Shirley Baker, introduced 2018 scholarship winner Taylor Young and her family at the Aug. 10 buffet dinner. She is one of the 150 scholarship recipients who attended the Elks national convention in San Antonio this summer.
